Small Sparks fund - up to £2,500

 

Are you a small community or voluntary group wanting to provide local activities to improve health and social wellbeing? Then Small Sparks could be for you!

 

Small Sparks fund is a new small grants programme for voluntary and community organisations working for the people of Portsmouth.

 

Grants of between £500-£2,500 are available for projects that finish before 30th June 2009. The main objectives of the Small Sparks fund are:

 

· Reduce the risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease and strokes

· Increase the opportunity for local people to become involved in activities aimed at improving health and social wellbeing

· Reduce health inequalities by targeting disadvantaged communities

· Support activities which promote healthier lifestyles

· Encourage social interaction and participation

· Support groups in increase their skills and knowledge

 

Small Sparks has been set up to promote community involvement in the Vascular Prevention Programme – a health improvement programme aimed at reducing risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease (heart attacks, angina), strokes and reducing health inequalities. The aim is to reduce these risks and to increase the life expectancy of Portsmouth people by one year by 2012. The Small Sparks fund and the Vascular Prevention Programme are initiatives by the Portsmouth City tPCT in partnership with Portsmouth City Council.
